“I am prepared and delighted to recommend it”

Bolton Wanderers Every now and again a book comes along that is unique and, at the same time, informative, practical, witty, thought provoking and potentially life saving. This book fits this description. Adrian Shurmer, a colourful, larger than life character, with vast knowledge and experience of driving awareness has made it a "must have" book for all drivers, but particularly any young learner or inexperienced newcomer to the wheel. The amount of knowledge in this book and the insight to the world of motoring is staggering. If you thought you knew about driving - think again! This book takes the reader into a completely different league of driving awareness compared to your average publication. As a person who has worked within the professional football industry for several years, I know how difficult it is to make an impression on young footballers who are starting out on a career that could bring them fame and considerable fortune. Adrian Shurmer was able not only to attract and hold their attention when he worked with them here at Bolton Wanderers F.C., but he had the lads and our senior staff, including our drivers, hanging on his every word and importantly was able to change their mindset with respect to their approach to driving. His enthusiasm and incisive knowledge of the subject matter is second to none; he is the consummate professional. His delivery, on the course he laid on for our young players, was done in a very honest and humorous way, which is replicated in this book, and this is why I am prepared and delighted to recommend and comment on it.

- Dr Fran Walsh, Head of Education and Welfare, Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

“Adrian stimulates the boys to think”

Manchester UnitedAt Manchester United, we have also been involved in the 'Shurmer Experience' and I totally concur with everything that Fran Walsh from Bolton Wanderers has said. Adrian stimulates the boys to think that, as in football, the physical and technical are important, but without good habits and awareness, the opportunities for success are less.

- David Bushell, Manchester United Football Club

“I think we can call this a win-win situation”

SealySealy is a business that prides itself on the quality of its products. Having experienced the Driver Awareness programme myself, we have found a business with the same attributes.

Sealy has saved money, benefitting from reduced motor insurance premiums as a result of an exceptionally low accident rate. Employees, whose jobs involve driving, are given an education on the Driver Awareness programme that makes them safer in their daily workplace; our congested road network. I think we can call this a 'win-win' situation.

- Jim Harrower, Managing Director, Sealy (United Kingdom)

“... those who previously expressed doubts became believers!”

Glaston Compressor Services Ltd. Provides on-site service, repairs and also installation works for a large number of manufacturing customers throughout the UK. This requires us to be able to travel to our customers' factory premises by road regardless of traffic conditions.

We maintain our vehicles for maximum reliability as well as safety and our drivers are aware of the consequences should they become unable to drive for any reason (not to mention the crippling effect of escalating insurance premiums).

I was introduced to Driver Awareness Courses after one of our customers enlightened me and my driving employees attended the course soon afterwards.

The reaction immediately after the Course was very rewarding. Most drivers came and thanked me and those who previously expressed doubts became believers!

Our crash record has now greatly improved.

- Michael Douglas, Managing Director, Glaston Compressor Services Ltd.

“Two days' Driver Awareness advice is like a lifetime of re-education”

Silent NightTwo days' Driver Awareness advice is like a lifetime of re-education - not on how to drive, more on how to think, look and behave, and help you gain precious seconds in today's high speed battle ground we used to call the highway!

All our sales team have discovered the art of Driver Awareness and in the years since the course our crash rate has dropped to almost nil - a massive saving in both lost selling time and repair costs. Anyone who drives on a regular basis should make this a 'must do' for themselves and their company drivers.

- Graham Butterfield, Sales Director, Silent Night

“Had I not received your training I would not have been here to type this”

I attended one of your courses back in October 2007 and I just wanted to write to you today as some of the training that you provided on that day has just turned what could have been a fatal crash into something I have walked away from without any injury to anybody. Thanks to that training you supplied, I was prepared, and I anticipated a car coming out from a junction. Because of the course, I was already taking action before they initiated their move and, as such, already had a plan to react. With the road being a free-flowing dual carriageway, I was able to reduce my speed from 70 mph in plenty of time and, whereas there was still a collision, the speed of impact was drastically reduced. With my plan in place I managed to manoeuvre the car to reduce the damage. My training kicked in and I have damaged only one wrist, which is why I am still able to type this. Had I not received your training, the impact would have been at 70 mph and head on for me. I would not have been here to type this now so I'll end by saying "Thanks once again and keep up the good work!"

“A most enjoyable and enlightening day”

On behalf of my niece Abigail Milnes and myself I wish to express our thanks for a most enjoyable and enlightening day plus the certificates.

Receiving the benefits of your police training, experience and expertise will be of great value in enhancing our driving skills. Personally, I think the most important things I have taken away are the need to create a safe space and being aware of the need to predict the behaviour of other drivers to a higher level.

I strongly support your views expressed in 'Mind How You Go' that advanced driver training is the key to improving road safety in the UK and not the disastrous methods currently being promulgated by the authorities by making things more difficult and dangerous for drivers. "Mind How You Go' is a superbly produced book which every motorist should read to improve their mind-set when driving.

May I wish you continued success and let us hope that one day the Government shall make attainment of your safe secure methods of driving mandatory.

My thanks to you.

- Roy Milnes, MinstEng

“Thank you for making us all a little safer on the road”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of all the staff at Intack who attended the courses, as everyone has commented that they have enjoyed the courses and taken something from them.

As you reiterate many times during the course and in the subsequent reports, it is all about getting into the mind of the driver and you certainly have managed to do that.

Once again, thank you for making the courses so enjoyable and for making us all a little safer on the road.

- Lee Grendall, Operations Manager, Intack
